I’ve been a professional dj and emcee for eleven years. I’ve been lucky to have had a few other careers before this that were very enjoyable and enriching, such as a writer for the satirical website/newspaper The Onion, a reporter in Washington, D.C., and a producer for television in Los Angeles. But being a full time dj has been has been the most exhilarating and rewarding experience.
One of the best feelings music afficionados share is the goosebumps-inducing sensation a deep connection to a song can give. When I bought my first set of turntables and began spinning at parties and clubs, it felt amazing to share this connection. It became addictive and rewarding to be able to connect with others through a wide range of music. I feel fortunate to be able to dj in New York City, a place with limitless potential and diversity.
What I love most about being a dj and emcee is collaborating with clients to find the perfect mix of music, mood and structure for their event so they feel confident the event will be unique and special, and then seeing the event become a success. A close second, though, is having spun at hundreds of events over the years, and never once playing “The Chicken Dance.”
